YOU GOT IT WRONG - Hopewell Chin’ono

The aim of this blog is to highlight persons in the media who tout the chemical imbalance theory as a fact. It's highly unprofessional and misleading to do so and this blog demands that any statements relating to the 'chemical imbalance' myth should either be backed up with supporting evidence or retracted.

Where possible, each person featured on this blog has been contacted via Twitter, email, and/or Facebook and asked to retract their statements or provide supporting evidence.

Once supporting evidence has been shown they will be removed from this blog. Moreover, if they retract their original statements they will also be removed from this blog.

As you will see from these lists, many of the authors are household names and influence those who follow them. This has to stop. The chemical imbalance line was created by the pharmaceutical industry, moreover, Eli Lilly, who launched the first of the SSRIs, Prozac.

Those featured on this list need to do their research.

  1. Can you not see that you are harassing this journalist and that you are trying to impose your views on him without basis. He asked you to provide evidence for your views and you failed. The onus is on you to prove him wrong not the other way round. What you are doing is cyber bullying and you must be ashamed of your ridiculous tactics which don't encourage any form of debate

    1. He is a journalist who made claims that mental illness is caused by a chemical imbalance. As a journalist it is up to him to be factually correct when he writes articles. The onus is not on the question asker, it is on the person making the claims. How is asking someone to prove something 'cyberbullying'?

I wanted to debate with Hopewell but he resorted to throwing out the 'conspiracy theory line'.

I ask again, can Hopewell prove that mental illness is caused by a chemical imbalance, if so, how is it measured, what instruments are used in the process?

Maybe you could ask him as he has now opted out of the discussion by blocking me on Twitter - a bit like a petulant school child.

    2. I love you, Bob! Keep up the good work!

    3. With respect Bob, the journalist in question didn't write the article. What you posted is an article about his yet to be released film talking about his collaboration with a musician who will write music for the film. So your statement that he wrote an article is misleading, an article was written about his film which I would assume you haven't watched yet since he says it's yet to be released. I would respect you if you told the truth & not misrepresent your facts. Wait for the film to come out and see what it says. You can't demand that a filmmaker releases on twitter what is in a yet to be in released film. It is plain ridiculous & you would agree to.

What you are doing is nothing short of cyber bullying. Do the right thing, wait for the film to come out then critique what it says. That sounds reasonable & logical to me

    4. Go back and read the article. He is quoted and has been given the opportunity to redact his statement. He has chosen not too, instead opting to label anyone that disagrees with him a 'conspiracy theorist'.

The blog on here will remain, unless, of course, either he or you can convince me that you know more than the following mental health experts.

    5. OMG, you talk as if you are God Bob. "He was offered to redact."πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I don't think he will lose sleep over this Bob. You can use this to engage not intimidate. People will simply turn off. You can't bully people to redact material they have gathered from professionals like psychiatrists. You present your views and engage not to demand that someone redacts something before discourse.

Just my thoughts. All the best

    6. What professionals did he speak to? You seem to know a lot about him, is he pulling your strings, Teresa?

    7. Bob, read the article that you posted. It clearly states that he is working on a documentary film with a 'leading research and clinical psychiatrist called Dr Dixon Chibanda' looking at mental illness in Zimbabwe. Why are you being selective about your version of the 'truth' and now accusing him of pulling strings, what a ridiculous thing to say.

There is dignity Bob in telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth. You posted the article yourself and you are now asking where it is written?!

    8. What is your interest in him? You are leving comments on this one post and not the others. My version of the 'truth', as you put it, is simply trying to get evidence from your friend the journalist. I know he is working on a documenatary, I also know, from the article, that he claims, mental illness "is a chemical imbalance which is not different from diabetes.” - My question to him remains the same, maybe you could answer it seeing as you seem to be speaking for him? What's wrong, is he not able to fight his own corner so sends someone else along?

By claiming that mental illness is caused by a chemical imbalance is nonsense and, dare I say it, very dangerous indeed.

It is not me who is being selective about the truth, I am merely seeking it, something which your journalist friend seems reluctant to release, although I highly suspect that he has now done his homework and realized his error and is sending in you to clean u his mess.

      Fair enough comment, 'Teresa'?

  2. To be fair to Bob he is challenging the 'chemical imbalance' myth that is dangerous, damaging and misinformed. Those who developed the DSM will even say that there is no 'chemical imbalance'! It is very important to challenge any misinformation that is being shared as fact and with due respect, if the journalist is not able to evidence his comments with research that shows 'chemical balance' is a factor then he devalues his own work. I look forward to hearing what evidence he does have that everyone else doesn't.

    Best wishes,
    Hannah Dornin

    1. I don't think Teresa quite grasps the point Hannah, she seems to just throw out insults, a trait that I'm all too familiar with when people can't answer what is, seemingly, a simple question.

  3. I don't need to do any home work for someone whom you have introduced on your blog as a Harvard trained journalist. He is capable of talking to you himself. I saw your comment on twitter hence my interest. I would have done the same if I were him, block you because you are attacking people not engaging them. It's called cyber bullying. You can't ask someone to reveal what is in his upcoming film on twitter. Are you the sherif of Nottingham? I think you have an inflated ego & exegerated self worth Bob.

  4. Hanna Dorman. This sounds like a fringe lunatic argument unless if it is framed with respect & dignity. You don't get anything meaningful out of someone by intimidating them and cyber bullying them like what Bob is doing. It's crass. I have read the tweet messages by the journalist in question, he was trying to engage and Bob just shut him down which is ridiculous & as the journalist said in the tweets above, Bob was dictatorial. The journalist was actually respectful, Bob was absolutely crude. How do you expect someone with an upcoming film to start revealing what is in the film on twitter before It's out. It shows your indignation for process. Bob says the guy blocked him, good for him. Why would you like to engage with a bully with nothing to lose when you have a professional career to protect. Bob, you Good for nothing nutcase should talk to people with respect or else go and seek psychiatric help. You are still not well upstairs. You can bully these journalists and doctors but not me. How dare you resort to chauvinism to try and shut me down! You bloody swine!

    1. Hmm, a cyberbully, chauvinistic and a nutcase. And you're now referring me to a psychiatrist. Nice.

Keep it coming Teresa, you are making yourself look rather foolish and, dare I say it, somewhat obsessed.

FYI - I'm happy Hopewell blocked me - it speaks volumes.

  7. What causes chemical imbalances in the brain is all the toxic rubbish they are giving out to people with mental health problems. All they do is create more and more problems.

  8. Angie Cavanagh hit the nail on the head.
Bob Fiddaman is asking a question: "How do you measure chemical imbalance of the brain?"
    He is not bullying.
He is trying to seek the truth! ~Nothing more ~ nothing less!
Unless, you have been impacted by these meds, it is best if one refrains from information which has not be proven.
Giving prescribed medication without highlighting all the dangerous side effects or adverse reactions, is dangerous and inhumane.
If one wants to participate in a healthy debate all opinions should be respected.
Don't distort the truth or make those who are posing a simple honest question be perceived as crazy or illogical, Teresa. You are insulting and hurting that persons, intelligence.
Those who feel threatened by a question which has not been proven, should not 'put down 'people who are seeking honest answers.

I believe those who have been negatively impacted, just want to seek the TRUTH and if people feel threatened by questions and there are no answers, they are just not prepared to engage in honest, healthy discussions or listen to those who have been seriously maimed by these so called 'safe meds'.
When you call someone a bully, you are defaming someone's intelligence.
Are you afraid to think outside the box?
Those who challenge something and are not sheep followers, just want to know how one comes up with such a conclusion. If no one has the proof or evidence surrounding a generalization, then we all have to ask the question: How is chemical imbalance measured?
People who take these meds have a right to know and if people don't have answers, we owe it to ourselves to take care and responsibility for our mental health because when something goes wrong, no one takes any responsibility.

    1. Oh dear. Your rambling doesn't make any sense at all. Bob Fiddaman is a bully who tries to shame people into forcefully removing their views from the Internet. He would fit well into societies like North Korea not here in Britain. You engage with respect and dignity not using guerrilla tactics into shutting down other voices through bullying. Once you bully people they turn off.

Do you think that award winning media stars like Ruby Wax and Hopewell Chin'ono would lose sleep over some low life posting rambling incoherent posts on a blog which less than five people read?

Fiddaman is trying to get his one minute of fame by holding on to the coattails of these stars.

Get a life buddy. If you are still unhinged seek help

  9. Interesting perspective Theresa. If you feel like calling all of us who challenge the 'chemical imbalance theory' as 'rambling' or having 'fringe lunatic arguments' or 'cyber bullies' or 'chauvinists' then so be it. But many more professionals are making that very clear, with the Royal College of Psychiatrists recently stating that they do not support the 'chemical imbalance' theory. So it may be wise to do some further research yourself before you continue to call us all 'lunatics'.
I won't respond further to your commentary as I've said my peace, but if you are genuinely interested in this area, please do further research. The links I posted above are a good start.
    All the best,
    Hannah

  10. Intelligent people will no engage with Teresa.
She is pointing the finger at herself.
Tables would be turned, if she had a negative reaction with these meds.

  11. Dear Teresa.

you may want to pass on this tweet to those you claim know more than I. It's from the Royal College of psychiatrists in the UK. They were asked, in a recent Antidepressant Myth Busting Session, if depression was caused by a chemical imbalance.

You can see their reponse here.

Thanks for your input but, hate to say it, you and the others you mention in your comment, are wrong.

    Have a nice day.
